I was sort of aiming for something ultimately nintendo based, I didn't think of this situation when I made this thread, I guess that my thoughts on Nintendo's biggest hits ever just happened to be Nintendo made and distributed.

I'm going to have to say that Nintendo somehow had to play a major role in making the game or releasing the game or both.

But are we talking sales or is this just another "Greatest nintendos evar!" thread?

Well when it comes to sales, the top 5 Nintendo games in case anyone;s curious are:
1) Super Mario Bros. (NES) 40 M
2)Tetris (GB) 33 M
3) Wii Sports (Wii) 26 M
4)Super Mario World (SNES) 20 M
5)Pokemon Red Blue & Green (GB) 20.6 M*
*lets put super mario world ahed of pokemon red blue and green for arguments sake. Pokemon red blue green is3 games, that comibined for 20.6 million sales while super mario world is just 1 game that single handedly sold 20 million copies.

If we're going based only on sales then there's no point in even having a discussion. You can just post the sales numbers and be done with it. Nintendogs has sold over 18 million copies. So what?

I went with Ocarina of Time because not only is it the most popular game in Nintendo's most popular series, but many people also consider it to be the best game of all time.

I think what you said all depends on opinion. I don't think it is the best game of all time from nintendo. I think Twilight Princess surpassed in it every aspect, besides difficulty.. then again Z games are traditionally easy. Both games have combined sales of 10M.. or so. if they really were the best games of all time I think they'd have more sales, sure they are my favorite.. I'm not even a fan of the series.. But I think the best games should sell the most on their respective consoles.

So you're saying Nintendogs was a bigger hit than Ocarina of Time? Instead of looking at just sales I think you have to take into account how the game is remembered. 10 years from now are people still going to be talking about Nintendogs? 10 years later Ocarina of Time is still one of the most popular and most talked about games.

So why did nintendogs sell 10M more than OoT? "Greatest Hits" think about the music industry. What makes a greatest hit? Sales. doesn't matter how much the magazines or polls rave about it. On this forum more people may admire Will Smith over Celine Dion. okay, that's an opinion. But the sales are not even close. What marks a hit hands down is the sales, Nintendos greatest hit was Super Mario Bros, good for them they generated 40 Milliom dollars.

I'm sure its an ethical or cultural reason. Wii Sports for example.. who would buy 26 million copies? It may not be the best game in the world but it's the most versatile game. I'd buy it, you'd buy it, parents would buy it, college kids would buy it, blacks would buy it, white people would buy it.

Where as when it comes to Zelda, maybe not everyone is a fan of the genre, maybe the parents see the 'T' on Twilight Princes and don't buy it for their kids, maybe some people would rather buy a sports or FPS over a zelda game. It is not a game that is versatility enjoyable.

I put Star Fox in there based on its sheer awesomeness.

Nobody buys it. They got a wii, so they got Wii sports regardless of how much they wanted it.

Same for super mario bros. It came with the NES. Also, that's not dollars, that's games sold

What's your point, 40 Million is still more than 10 Million, Dollars, Sales.. Tomatoes? I don't see your point, my mistake.. but Super Mario Bros still sold more than any other game of all time, end of story. Marketing counts too.
