2016 Olympics

Who would you like to see host the 2016 Olympics? Where do you think they'll end up?

The four finalists are...

Chicago, United States
Madrid, Spain
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Tokyo, Japan

The host city will be announced a little over a year from now.

I may be incredibly biased, but I'd love to see Chicago get the bid. Europe has two of the last three Olympics, with '04 in Athens and '12 in London, so I don't think they should go back to Europe so soon. The crime is ridiculous in South America, and I don't think they're ready to host the Olympics yet. And Asia just hosted the Olympics in Beijing. It makes sense for Chicago to get them and I think they'd make great hosts.

I wanna see it in Chicago just because I like the idea of the U.S. being the host country again.

South America is supposed to be hosting the World Cup next but I don't even think that is going to go over well with all the crime and plus they aren't even done building the stadium yet last I checked must less even half way done with it.

I think it will be either US or Spain. Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing it in Spain.

Chicago of course. I'd have no housing problem in case I plan to visit during the games.

But yeah, with London hosting it just before, I want the Olympics to get away from Europe.

Spain hosted an olympics in Barcelona in 1992. Then Atlanta, Georgia had theirs in 1996. So both the USA and Spain have had theirs in the last 20 or so years.

Brazil still hasnt hosted one, probably because of their crime history like Echoes said. However I think with the amount of competition they've put up in the Beach/Water sports it would probably be a fair choice for them to be a host country. Problem is do they have the funds to put something that big on? I mean when it comes to Arena's and Swimming complexes and just the Spectator Structures in general, do they have the ability to construct something of that Capacity?

The States have had 4 different summer games hosted (1904 (st. louis), 1932 (los angeles), 1984 (los angeles), 1996 (atlanta), also another 4 games in the Winter Olympics; 1932 (NY), 1960 (Calif), 1980 (NY), 2002 (Salt Lake). Thats a whopping 8 games played between 1904 and 2002... I think the states have had a fair share of Olympic Sites. However Chicago would be sweet, plus the USA can fund these types of games so they are a definite choice.

It hasnt been in Japan since 1964 for the summer Olympics, Although they were there for Nagano in 98 for the Winter games. I say Japan would be the next best fair choice. Their economy always seems like its on the rise, I am confident they'd be able to fund the games and put on a great show. Even though the games were In Beijing this year, they'll be in London next games thats an 8 year gap, hell almost a decade between Beijing and Tokyo. I think they would be a good choice.

I would like to see the Olympics in Rio.

A little Latin would make for a special games. Yes the city is renown for its crime but a part of hosting the olympics is to overcome barriers, the IOC would pressure the Brazilian government and the government would have to promise to inject a lot of money in rejuvenating the city and ironing out its problems to meet international expectations. It is well known that sports are a positive step in rehabilitation< and that is what Rio needs.

An Olympic games in Brazil would achieve more for the hosts than in any of the other 3 nominations. The other nations may have plenty to provide but they have nothing to prove. Brazil can only make gains so my vote is with them.

Plus in Brazil they know how to PARTTTTTYYYYYYYY!

I'm pretty sure Brazil can come up with the funds if they're chosen. I mean, even if economy is bad they still have a space program.

I am biased as well but I'd give it to Chicago. Being in St Louis I could easily make that 4.5 hour road trip up there to catch some events.
