I guess this thread gave insperation to the Canadian Athletes. They now have 1 gold, one silver and one bronze. I'm more proud now. I'm really happy that we finally got on the podium.

Here are the events we won a meda at:

Bronze medal in wrestling
Silver medal in rowing, men's pair
Gold medal in wrestling

Hopefilly we can get some more.

I'm going to have to speak my mind.

Why should the medals matter that much? Surely the fact a country is being represented by top athletes is enough.

Sure, your country winning medals would be good. But if those athletes are performing well, that's just as good in my opinion.

I kinda see what you mean but I still see it like this. Humans love bragging rights. Theres not as much pride to be had in a nation that always comes up just short.....Hard to brag about 4th place when three people from other nations are better than you and have medals to prove it.

Canada needs to find a sport it can compete at and be the best at. That is what the UK does; We concentrate on the sports where being black is not a prerogative and where most nations cant be bothered to spend the money required. Hence we suck at nearly all sports except Yachting, Rowing and Cycling but we scoop a load of medals in those disciplines so we look better than we actually are. France is the same they rock at Fencing...woot

And we just got another gold for fencing earlier! Woot. We have the same number of medals now as Great Britain (although ranked lower because bulk of it were silvers).

Storm these athletes train for four years to get a spot in the podium. They don't go there for fun, they go there to try and win a medal.

In my opinion it would be disapointing if I didn't win a medal at what I've worked so hard for during the past four years. So that's why it's important for my country to win medals.

I respect them in every way, but I want them to win medals because they worked so hard.

I don't see how your not suprised MJ.. me and you both know Summer Olympics is not a big thing in Canada. I never expect Canada to be in the top 10 for the Summer Olympics.. can you belive these Beijing Olympics could have been in Toronto.. I remeber the day of the bidding.. why hold Summer Olympics if we rock during winter..

Vancouver 2010 here we come

oh and you forgot Canada's 1st medal was a Bronze in swimming this year.

Oh Padd, I didn't have high expectations from Canada, we haven't got a lot medals since the 84 Olympics where we won 44 of them(I believe)

I was just letting some frustration out, because it was already day seven and Canada hasn't won any yet.

But we have nine medals now, and I have a chance to winning for at the end of the week. So I'm happier now.

I knew he would do good in rowing and kayaking, we usually do.
