Alright, I'm pretty sure everyone knows what Michael Phelps did this summer during the Olympics. Well if you don't he won eight gold medals. Now I aint to sure that a lot of people know what Jesse Owens did during the 1936 Olympics. Here's a brief explanation.

The 1936 were held in Berlin, during the time were Hitler was in command. Jesse Owens was an african-american. So just think how hard it was for him to compete in those Olympics.

Owens won four gold medals during those Olympics in Track & Field. He won gold in:

-100 meter
-The Long Jump
-200 meter
-4x100 relay

Now here comes the impressive thing about Owens, he won all these golds under an hour. That's just unheard of these day.

Now my question to you guys is this, which accomplishment is more impressive. The eight gold by Phelps, or the four golds by Owens in less then an hour?

The 4 golds by Owens because he wasn't killed by Hitler or Nazis because of his skin and he got 4 golds in under and hour. That's epic

Phelps' eight gold medals is more impressive to me. The fact that there weren't many black athletes competing in the Olympics back then means that a lot of world's best athletes weren't there. Phelps went up against the best of the best, in a time when the athletes are superior to what they were 70 years ago. Four golds in an hour is neat, but nobody has the chance to do that anymore. They don't schedule events like that now.

BUT, Hitler and the nazis were killing off people of a different race at the time and he overcame that.

What's your point? How does that have anything to do with his performance? It's not like he was fighting off the Nazis while he was running.

Phelps; the Nazis weren't on a kill spree until 1939, 8 individual gold medals is more impressive than 4, in those days some athletes and countries did not participate in the olympics meaning it wasn't the best of the best.
