Frankly, I think it was a bad a idea for China to have the Olympics at this time. There's been an awful lot of controversy concerning the rights of the journalists and getting access to what they need, some of the promises of the organizers in China not being fulfilled and now this. No matter how the whole thing ends, this will definitely be one for the record books.

Yea, some of the fireworks where done on computer. In regards to teh topic. I think its quite sad. But like Cons said. Image is everything sadly.

It's a cute little girl singing? Who cares if her teeth are a little crooked? When little kids, regardless of looks, does something like that its totally adorable; i feel really sorry for her.

I agree with this. I don't care if she didn't go up to be the face of the performance, She was chosen by merit that she had the bast voice they could find. Especially in a communist country, that's really good.

While I see the point of seeing this as nothing quite shocking, given a background understanding of their culture, I think that to say nothing against it just fosters this type of behavior. They did it for a show (an effort to please us)...and the audience loved it, nevermind how the same audience will never applaud it in their own country. We, the audience, are just promoting this superficiality in others by saying it's acceptable.

Why I don't object to this: The girl wasn't doing this for herself. This wasn't about some girl, it was China's presentation to the world, so China presented the best voice, with the best face. If it had been Yang Peiyi's performance, or Lin Miaoke's, and not China's, then yeah, lip synch's bad, but it's not. Rather than someone who's just kinda good at both, the roles were filled by the best person for the job.

Shows you what craziness the high expectations lead to now a days. Maybe they should have assessed what aspect was more important to them; a beautiful voice or a cute girl.
And here I though all 9yr old's were cute enough to perform.

Why do that when they could have both?

Because it's a real performance and doesn't cause controversy when your trying to uphold an image to the world and hope the Olympics committee chooses Beijing again.

And how is having a different person sing and perform any less a real performance?

So you'd prefer that china didn't do their best to make this the most 'wow'-ing performance they could. It's not like this is some conspiracy, the chief music organizer is the one that came out about it.
