Hug-a-Hero Dolls

Quote:
A local military family has found a way to help their toddler cope when dad is away serving in Iraq. Now they say it could help bring comfort to many other kids with a parent serving overseas.

It's a huggable doll-shaped pillow called Hug-a-Hero.

For Tyler, it's already a hit - even though his dad doesn't leave until next week.

"He loved it immediately - he took to it," says Jennifer. "The first morning we got it he shared his cereal with it."

Cute. I laughed at it when I first saw it, but if it helps out when a parent leaves I'm all for it.

Would you ever want your picture on a pillow if you ever had to leave for a period of time?

Im wondering...

They give the pillows to the kids when the parent leaves, right? The kid knows the parent is alive, but has this pillow...

What if the parent dies? I think that might have some serious psychological ramifications. I envision the kid associating the pillow completely with his parent and becoming as attached to it as the kid was to the actual person.

Worrisome...i'm glad I don't actually know anything about psychology...

There was a quote here, but the the person who SAID the quote and pretty much ASKED for it to be placed in my sig asked for it to be removed.

****ing ass...

I dunno is that too much different than a kid latching on to a blanket or a teddy bear because it makes them feel safe?

Childhood is an awkward period, as they get older the pillow would become something sentimental to keep around. I get where your coming from, I just think if it helps the child cope its probably a good thing.

It'd be rough having your parent die, having something you can keep around to remind you of them I think would be something to be thankful for.

Also I don't know anything about psychology either.

I think this is the deepest post I've ever read from you *thinks* yep.

I actually think it's a sweet idea. It has to be hard for those kids to have a parent gone that long, and this seems like something that would help.

It's just as good as a photograph. But even better because it is huggable. I think it's important for the children to have a way to comfort themselves when missing their parent.

Bored out of my mind.
