The poker bad beats thread

I know there are a ton of people out there who love to talk about their "bad beats," so use this thread to discuss them and vent your frustrations.

I haven't had a good one in a while the I'll never forget when I was in the final two in my friends tournament and the winner got 100 bucks and I lost to a 4 of a kind with a full house. I've never been so pissed in my life.

Anybody else got any stories?

This happened in the poker room here...

I had pocket aces. I think I raised to 3 before the flop.
Steve re-raised to 5.
Spence called.
I re-raised the maximum, which was 20 something.
Steve called.
Spence called. I think he was all-in.

Spence flopped two pair and won the hand with 9/3 off-suit. I played the hand perfectly and lost a lot of chips to a garbage player. Happens way too often here. That's the main reason I don't play much anymore.

I thought you guys were talking about bad beats, as in poorly predicting, not bad losses.

I play fairly tight so I don't suffer many bad losses. I try to figure out players first then I'll get ballsy.

I was playing online but not here. I lost three hands in a row that I was all in and had to rebuy. The first one I have Ace King off suit and lost to a 2 and 3 I have aces pair but he had two pair 2 and 3. The other two were similar with me having face cards and him beating me with 2's and 3's off suit. Piss me off!

Why the hell would Spence call that much with 9/3 offsuite? Thats one of the reasons I like playing good players and not newbies.

According to Wikipedia...

"In poker, bad beat is a subjective term for a hand in which a player who had what appeared to be strong cards nevertheless loses. It most often occurs where one player bets the clearly stronger hand and their opponent makes a poor call that eventually "hits" and wins."

That's what I've always considered to be the definition of a bad beat.

The funny thing is Steve's cards were just as bad and he called too. People just don't care about losing fake poker chips so they don't take it seriously. It's just not worth playing against them. I like playing good players too (not that Steve isn't a good player, sometimes he just gets bored), and I tend to have more success against them.

Exactly, same here.

That's why its going to be so interesting to see how the hands go down with the poker tournament coming up when there is actual items to win. I'm sure people will play a little more tight and we'll see who really is good and who's a poser. Obviously some luck will still be involved but that's poker.

i always thought a bad beat is when the person would have lost until the final card turn... basically a one in a million hand givin to a bad player because "god" has a sense of humor

That's pretty much the same thing...it can go either way.
