Dowd had a very good piece of Palin: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/05/op...dowd.html?_r=2

Dowd is a somewhat fair voice in the media and I generally like what she writes even if I don't agree with it. I like Palin, but its hard to see how politically this is a good move even with the strain of the ethics complaints I mentioned earlier.

Teen sex is a responsible decision? 14 year olds pregnant unable to support themselves and unable to finish school is a responsible decision? Wow, who knew?

Saying "they're going to do it anyway" is a defeatist attitude. Teaching children to wait until they're ready is a responsible approach. Whether they do or not is a different issue. Doesn't mean contraception shouldn't be taught, just means that it doesn't necessarily mean Palin is a hypocrite.

Really? Is that true for everything including global warming?

One of the rumors I heard today is chair of the RNC. If you take that rumor in light of what she said Friday, it makes sense. A lot of people can't stand Michael Steele, I'm surprised he made it this long. There has been an exodus of Republicans much because the leadership of Steele is horrible. Just a rumor - but interesting idea.

MOD POST

Sim, and CaptainObvious. Lets try to keep this discussion about discussion. Please don't dismiss points simply by saying something like 'Oh, that's what a republican would want, or not want etc'. Also remarks like 'I pity you, you must lead a sad life' and the subsequent reply to that remark, have nothing to do with this topic. Please refrain from it.

Consider this your final warning. Please reread the new updated rules located here.

Next time I will be handing out infractions, regardless of who starts it.

No 'bombshell' drove Palin resignation, lawyer says - CNN.com

Her lawyer released this to dispel a lot of the rumors - apparently the Letterman thing played a small part? Seems a little odd.

It's sad, and quite disgusting how many attacked her personally. I don't blame her if that's the reason, at some point what parent wouldn't just give it all up to stop all the attacks on her kids? It's too bad we have to resort to the lowest common denominator in politics.

I agree - but you have to come to expect it, if you're going to be in the national spotlight. That's why it seems odd to me.

To some extent I agree, you do have to expect some attacks. But the attacks were beyond anything that appeared civil. It is somewhat odd that Letterman had much to do with it.

Until Palin came along children of politicians were always off limits. Family members in general were off limits. It wasn't just Letterman that pushed the envelope with the kids. Locally there were cartoons that made fun of her new baby with Downs. There's never been anything in my life like the assassination of Palin.
