I think you're missing the underlying point here Kaz. No one is against advancements in clean energy, I'm not, but I also have a checkbook to keep, as do other Americans. Currently coal, oil and nuclear are the only three power sources that can pull the BTU's to light your house and keep you from going broke. You can't legislate something into existence, it just can't be done.
You have to understand that clean energy hasn't reared it's head in the free market for a reason. It's not magic, it's not greedy CEO's. The reason is because
it's expensive. Solar panels aren't cheap, nor are wind turbines. The cost to build one does not meet the money generated in BTU's. Product is sold when someone see's something that is needed, invests (risks) their capital and makes it work. If they see it's too expensive, and won't turn a profit, they obviously aren't going to risk their money on something that doesn't work. Clean energy is quite simply not perfected technology, and passing this bill won't make it that way. It will only be that way when there are better advancements in clean energy, the free market will see that, and invest in it. Only then will it be cheap.
So if this bill gets passed what will happen? America will then import MORE foriegn oil, which is the last thing we need. Heating oil and gas prices will sky rocket. Your energy bill will sky rocket because of new taxes and simple supply and demand. If you limit supply (which this bill does) and the demand stays the same or increases, the price goes up... I mean this is 5th grade math. The oil and coal companies will just foot the bill to you, the customer. In addition all those jobs in the coal and oil industry will be lost.
What we need to do is use our clean coal technology (which we already have). Drill our own oil (and we have ****loads of it) and don't force companies to depend on outside sources. Lastly we do have one source of cheap clean power that can pull the BTU's... Nuclear. France can do it, why can't we?
