How could Nazism happen? What the heck was wrong in 1933?

Many people, especially Americans, often asked me "what the heck was wrong with you guys in Germany in 1933"?

In order to answer this question, I would like to explain some details of German history between 1914 and 1939 to you. But since all these details of removed foreign political details would be boring, I decided to write a little story instead:

For that you get an idea what happened in Germany back then, I transferred the events in Germany between 1914 and 1939 to America, from 1983 to 2006.

I hope that makes the historical facts of Germany more vivid and accessible for American, politically interested readers. And I also hope it's a bit fun! :)

Here the story:

------------------

Alternate History Fiction: The Day John Brown Became President

We are in 1983. There is a crisis in Europe between the NATO and the USSR, and the worst case becomes reality: The crisis escalates into a war between the superpowers. US President Ronald Reagan holds a dramatic speech: "The ultimate war between good and evil has become reality. We have to fight the final battle for the liberation of the world!"

While the public is afraid of a nuclear escalation, nobody has any doubt the USSR is responsible for this war and a wave of patriotism goes through the country. Millions of young men enlist for the army and the Democrats declare their unconditional solidarity with President Reagan.

At first, the war seems to go well for the USA: There is some progress at the front and Ronald Reagan, celebrated as the great war President, wins the 1984 election with a huge majority.

After two years, in 1985, the war does not go well for the USA. There is no nuclear escalation, because both sides don't dare taking this step, but the Soviet troops have advanced in Europe and hold many territories of NATO states. The USA have taken a huge effort sending reinforcements to Europe and the state has increased its debts to a very high level in order to pay for armament -- but these efforts seem to be in vain, no progress is made on the front.

In 1986, the situation for the civil population in the USA deteriorates severely, because large amounts of material are shipped to the front in Europe: There is a shortage of food and medication, and illnesses are spreading. It becomes obvious the USA have problems mustering the resources necessary to fight this war, while maintaining civil infrastructure at home. Up to 3 million American civilians die due to illnesses and shortage of food. But President Reagan declares: "There can be no end to this war now -- there is no other option but victory!"

At this point, many Democrats start opposing this war and there is a severe fight in the Democratic Party between war supporters and opposers. In the end, about a third of the Democrats split off from their party and form a new one: The Peace Party. Jesse Jackson is elected their chairman. While the remaining Democrats keep supporting the war, Peace Party chairman Jesse Jackson declares: "It has become obvious that there will be no winner in this war, but we are all losing. The humanitarian situation for poor people has become unbearable. There is shortage of food, shortage of medication and doctors. It is time to start negotiations with the USSR about a peace that will allow both sides to save face, before even more innocent civilians will die a meaningless death."

In the beginning of 1988, the situation in the USA becomes even worse, while NATO loses more and more ground in Europe. A rapidly increasing number of people grow angry with President Reagan's uncompromising will to keep fighting, because they don't see any chance of winning. There are peace protests all over the country now, calling Reagan to start negotiations, many of them supported by the Peace Party. One of their most engaged activists is Ralph Nader, who has joined the Peace Party and soon becomes its most prominent speaker. In numerous interviews, Ralph Nader (Peace Party) and Jesse Jackson (Peace Party) complain about the horrible situation for American civilians and demand President Reagan to end the war.

In February 1988, 20 million Americans hold a national peace demonstration, initiated by Nader, Jackson and the Peace Party. In some cities, there are violent clashes between angry protesters and the police, dozens of people die. Among the peace protesters are several figures of the Civil Rights Movement, claiming that black people are the one group that suffers most because of this war, some even accuse Reagan of racism regarding the distribution of food and medication.

Polls are showing the Peace Party now has the support of about 50% of the population, while Reagan and the Republicans have dropped to an all-time low of 30%. The Democrats with their moderate support for the war are down to 20%.

In April 1988, Reagan finally realizes that this war cannot be won -- the USA have no resources left and the USSR is now holding most of continental Europe, including West-Germany, France and Italy. A Soviet invasion on Britain is expected within weeks and Reagan's military advisers explain the USA don't have the capacities necessary to win this battle. At this point, Reagan sends a message to the USSR, asking for negotiations about a cease fire. But the USSR replies that they will not negotiate with the USA, as long as Reagan is President -- they will negotiate with an entirely new government only.

When this condition becomes public, the angry protesters turn against Reagan, now openly calling for his resignation. The situation deteriorates: In many places, the peace protests get out of control, the police loses the control over several cities. Radical peace activists occupy official buildings and police offices, the police decomposes because hundreds of policemen ignore their orders and join the protests.

The Democrats now urge Reagan to resign as well, and support negotiations with the USSR, approaching the position of the Peace Party.

Reagan now fears that the country would fall into a civil war if he didn't resign -- so he starts an initiative in the Congress, supported by Republicans and Democrats, which would allow him to turn over the power to a provisional government of Peace Party and Democrats, in order to allow a cease fire with the USSR to be negotiated and to calm down the violent protests. The Supreme Court rules this initiative is legal "in order to save the Union".

In July 1988, Ralph Nader (Peace Party) is appointed provisional President of the USA, Michael Dukakis (Democrats) becomes VP, Jesse Jackson (Peace Party) becomes Secretary of State; the provisional government is a mixed government of Peace Party and Democrats. This new government immediately starts negotiations for a cease fire with the USSR. In September 1988, this cease fire comes into effect and the new government finds wide support in the extremely war weary population longing for peace.

The New Government 1988:

Ralph Nader (Peace Party), US President

Michael Dukakis (Democrats), Vice President

Jesse Jackson (Peace Party), Secretary of State

The USSR and President Nader's US government now start negotiations for a final peace treaty.

In the Presidential election November 1988, Republican George H. Bush is running against Ralph Nader, who is the common candidate of Peace Party and the Democrats, which promise a continuation of the mixed government. Nader wins in a landslide -- about 60% of the voters vote for him, Bush loses with 40% only. Nader's provisional government now is the official government.

President Nader (Peace Party) and Peace Party chairman Jesse Jackson start programs with the goal of improving the supply with food rations and medication and start several programs to support blacks and socially disadvantaged people.

But Nader's government is not successful calming down the peace protests, which don't decrease because the humanitarian situation has hardly improved and which have now also become racial protests, because many black people are still convinced the government discriminate black people regarding the distribution of food and medication. Millions of starving blacks demand bolder steps and consider Nader's and Jackson's programs insufficient. "Black Power" groups, like Nation of Islam and Black Panthers get an updraft and are now at the top of these ongoing protests.

Radical peace activists, who consider Nader's government not radical enough, because Nader does not attempt to persecute Reagan for war crimes, still push for new protests as if Reagan was still in power. "We don't want Nader, we want an entirely new Republic!", they claim, and "There is no justice until Reagan is on trial!"

In December 1988, these protests get very violent and the protesters fight the police out of several cities. In Mississippi, radical peace activists and Black Power groups fight the police out of the state, declare themselves the new government and establish a "Free Social Republic of Mississippi". President Nader calls out the army to break down the protests to preserve order -- several hundred protesters get killed. This causes a crisis in the Peace Party. Many members accuse Nader of being a traitor against their cause. President Nader, supported by moderate Peace Party members and the Democrats, claims: "We have to maintain order and the Union of our country. We have a new legitimate government now, violent protests are not acceptable!"

Peace Party chairman Jesse Jackson attempts to cool down the racial conflict: "I can assure you, we in the new legitimate government are doing all we can to improve equality. But this day is not the day for revenge on our old leaders. This day, we need unity in this troubled country! I call out to all my brothers: Lay down the arms and work with us together for a better America!"

But many Peace Party members are so angry with Nader's use of force, some even accuse Nader of racism because his remarks against the black protests and split off from the Peace Party, founding the Civil Rights Now!-Party (CRN), strongly influenced by radical leftist civil rights and peace activists. The party soon becomes a collecting basin for a multitude of radical peace activists and Black Power groups.

Huey Newton and Gore Vidal join the CRN and soon become its most popular figureheads. The party decides to install a two-person leadership with a quota: One of the two chairmen has to be black, the other white, symbolizing the goal of equality. Gore Vidal and Huey Newton are elected chairmen. Soon, many "Black Power" and "Black Muslim" people join the party. This new party does not support the US Constitution anymore, but Vidal and Newton call for a new Constitution to be made "which guarantees equal rights for racial minorities and social security systems to eliminate poverty and social discrimination" -- and they demand "Reagan and his ilk of fascist war criminals on trail, for mass murder on the American population". After his election to CRN co-chairman, Newton explains: "No matter if black or white, brown or yellow, we want equality, and we want it now! We are the only party that will end discrimination based on race or social status, we will end poverty in this nation! We will fight for this goal, against right-wing fascists such as the war criminal Reagan and liberal fascists such as President Nader. My sisters and brothers, no matter if black or white, don't expect anything from Jackson, this Uncle Tom for the status quo -- support us, now!"

There are 4 major Parties in the USA now: A poll in February 1989 shows the leftist CRN has support of 15% of the population, Nader's moderate left Peace Party/Democrat coalition wins 45%, the Republicans 40%.

At the same time, the American public is waiting for the results of the negotiations concerning a permanent peace treaty with the USSR -- March 7th 1989, the USSR finally makes their conditions for a peace with the USA public. The demands strike the US population as a shock:

The peace conditions dictated by the USSR to the USA:

- The USA have to disarm its troops to a strength of 200,000 soldiers and deliver all nuclear equipment to the USSR; the USA will have to give up all military bases outside its territory and turn over Britain to the Soviets -- the USA will become a regional power on eyelevel with Mexico and Canada

- The USA have to turn over Alaska and Hawaii to the USSR

- Texas will become an independent state disconnected from the US, with a permanent Soviet presence to secure oil deliveries to the USSR

- Florida will be turned over to Cuba

- very hard reparations: The USA will have to pay billions of dollars to the USSR, in order to "pay all costs the USSR have suffered because of this war"; annual sums of billions of dollars will have to be paid from 1990 to 2052

- The USA have to accept that the war was exclusively their fault, and they alone are to blame for it

These peace conditions by the USSR cause a wide outrage in the US population. President Nader calls them "totally unacceptable" and rejects to sign this peace treaty. The USSR now gives the USA an ultimatum: Either Nader's government signs this treaty within 7 days, or they will start a large-scale military invasion on North America.

A majority of Peace Party, the Democrats and moderate Republicans realize they have no choice but accepting these peace conditions, because the US do not have the resources left to stand against a Soviet invasion. Not signing the peace treaty would mean a Soviet occupation of the USA and the death of even more innocent people. In order to prevent an even worse fate for their country, Nader's government finally gives in: March 14th 1989, Secretary of State Jesse Jackson (Peace Party) signs the conditions by the USSR -- approved by a majority of Peace Party, Democrats and moderate Republicans in Congress.

But about a third of the Republican Congress members refuse to sign it, but support a continuation of the war, ignoring the US are not capable of doing that. When the moderate Republican leadership asks these members to moderate their position and to ratify the treaty, these protesting right-wing Republicans split off from their party, founding a new one: The Patriotic Party ("Patriots" ). The remaining Republicans, on the other hand, support Nader. George H. Bush explains their position that "the peace conditions have to be revised by diplomatic means, we cannot afford to continue this war. We have no choice but accepting these conditions".

Pat Buchanan is elected chairman of the Patriots and declares: "There is one single reason for us having lost this war: Because of liberal traitors from the so called "peace movement" and "civil rights groups", who have fought against this country from within! These black and liberal socialists have sided with the Communists, fallen in the back of our brave soldiers at the front! It was a dagger's thrust from behind, the only reason for having lost this war! Ralph Nader and his black friends are traitors, they have delivered this country to the Communists. We will fight them with all means necessary!"

Under heavy protest by a great number of US citizens and Pat Buchanan's Patriots, President Nader dissolves all US military bases outside of US borders, delivers Alaska and Hawaii to the USSR, Florida to Cuba and leaves Texas into independence -- approved by a majority of Peace Party, Democrats and moderate Republicans in the Congress, the Patriots unanimously voting against it.

After the Nader government has fulfilled the peace conditions, its approval rate sinks rapidly. Because of its tough dealing with demonstrations by radical civil rights groups, it loses many of its supporters to the leftist CRN, while many more right-leaning voters turn to Pat Buchanan's Patriots, enraged because of the peace conditions they blame Nader and Jackson for.

By the end of 1989, the country is at the brink of civil war: On the streets, leftist CRN supporters and Black Power groups are battling against Patriot supporters and right-wing soldiers who have come back from the war. They mutually blame each other: Leftists attack the right, call President Reagan a "fascist warmonger who is responsible for the destruction of our country and the death of millions of innocent American civilians", while the right claims "the only reason for the loss of this war are the civil rights movement and treasonous liberal and black socialists". Severe racial tensions are developing.

In April 1990, a right-leaning general gathers a group of 5000 soldiers and starts a putsch: His troops occupy Washington DC, ask the Nader government to resign and to turn over the power to Pat Buchanan and the Patriots. But this putsch fails after two days, because most parts of the army and bureaucracy don't support it. The general has to give up. In order not to enrage the right-wing even more, triggering even more violent protests, President Nader (Peace Party) decides this general will not be legally persecuted by pardoning him.

From May 1990 to August 1990, several very violent, bloody left-wing and right-wing protests strike the country, and President Nader orders the army to strike them all down. Hundreds of protesters die.

The people radicalizes: The left hates Nader for his use of military force against their protests, for his cooperation with Reagan's Republicans and his refusal to put the "war criminals" on trial, the right considers Nader a traitor for having signed the harsh peace conditions. People turn away from the three moderate parties (Peace Party, Democrats, Republicans), to the radical CRN and Patriots.

This trend fosters in the 1990 elections for the Congress: President Nader's governing coalition of Peace Party and Democrats loses its majority, the Patriots win 30% of the seats, the leftist CRN 15%. President Nader now seeks support from the moderate Republicans for his Peace Party/Democrat government.

This radicalization on both left and right continues until before the 1992 Presidential election: Polls are showing Pat Buchanan (Patriots) at 35%, Nader (Peace Party/Democrats) at 25%, George H. Bush (Republicans) at 25%, and Gore Vidal (CRN) at 15%.

The three moderate parties realize they would have no chance of winning, if they ran against each other. So Peace Party and Republicans overcome their mutual differences, because they realize it would be the worst case possible if Pat Buchanan and his Patriots won the election, so they start negotiating a close cooperation in the upcoming election with the Democrats.

In the end, Peace Party, Democrats and Republicans agree on a common compromise candidate: Joe Lieberman (Democrats). Lieberman is supposed to run on a ticket of all three moderate parties, Democrats, Republicans and Peace Party. In exchange for their support, Lieberman (Democrat) offers the Republicans to put George H. Bush on his ticket as VP running mate, and he promises the Peace Party to appoint their chairman Jesse Jackson Secretary of State once again.

The campaign is very hard:

The Presidential Election 1992:

The candidates and their platforms:

Joe Lieberman (Democrats; common candidate of Peace Party, Democrats and Republicans). His platform:
- George H. Bush (Republicans) is running mate as VP
- Jesse Jackson (Peace Party) is supposed to continue as Secretary of State
- a mixed "government of reason" by moderate members of Peace Party, Democrats and Republicans
- restoring order in the country and preserving its Union, against uprisings from left and right
- a revision of the peace treaty with the USSR by diplomatic means

Pat Buchanan (candidate of the Patriots):
- Pat Robertson (Patriots) is running mate as VP
- immediate annulation of the peace treaty with the USSR
- Ralph Nader and Jesse Jackson on trial for treason, because they signed the peace treaty with the USSR
- a radical crackdown and legal persecution of all "liberal traitors and the so called civil rights movement which have delivered our country to the Communists"
- an annulation of all Amendments to the Constitution that were made in the Civil Rights era
- criminalization of all forms of "liberal decadence", like homosexuality, abortion and pacifism, which are responsible for the military defeat in the war against the USSR

Gore Vidal (candidate of the Civil Rights Now!-Party):
- Huey Newton (CRN), former Black Panthers chairman, as running mate for VP
- Ronald Reagan and his government on trial for war crimes and crimes against the US population
- laws severely limiting the power of private corporations, and nationalization of the "military-industrial complex" in order to "punish those forces which are responsible for the destruction of our country"
- a new Constitution, or at least Amendments to the existing one, which criminalize all forms of racism and turn the USA into a "social state"
- large programs and quotas to rise the number of blacks in leading positions

After a very harsh campaign (Buchanan: "We now know it was wrong to grant blacks equality -- they have delivered us to the Communists, that's what they did with their power! And this man who does not stand for the tradition of this Christian country [Lieberman] is now collaborating with these traitors! Is Jesse Jackson not on his ticket? He is not any better than the homosexual and the black Communist criminal [Vidal and Newton] who openly advocate the destruction of our Constitution!" -- Vidal: "A tendency to fascism has built up in our country since the 1950s, and finally resulted in the military-industrial complex pushing his puppet Reagan into a war that has destroyed our country!" ), accompanied by numerous violent protests on the streets, Joe Lieberman/George H. Bush (supported by Peace Party, Democrats, Republicans) win the election with 50%, against Buchanan/Robertson (35%) and Vidal/Newton (15%).

In January 1993, Joe Lieberman (Democrats) is inaugurated as US President, George H. Bush (Republicans) becomes VP and Jesse Jackson (Peace Party) Secretary of State again.

In summer 1993, President Lieberman starts a diplomatic campaign towards the USSR, in order to revise the peace conditions. After hard negotiations, Lieberman has to come home without success: Except for a few minor corrections regarding the sum of the reparations, he achieved nothing. The USSR was not willing to give in, or even talk about the status of Texas and Florida.

Also, the economic situation in the US deteriorates because of the hard reparations and there is an inflation because the state has to pay back the debts from the war: Many companies go bankrupt, unemployment reaches a level of 25%. The middle class impoverishes.

This decline of the social situation, which hits blacks overproportionally, gives the CRN an updraft, while the failure of President Lieberman's diplomacy towards the USSR convince even more people to turn to the Patriots' radical position on the peace treaty.

In the 1994 elections for Congress, the three moderate parties (Peace Party, Democrats, Republicans) lose their majority -- CRN and Patriots now together hold a majority, which of course doesn't mean they get through any laws, because of their mutual hatred. But they keep blocking every law proposed by the moderate governing parties.

The political process is paralyzed: Every law that President Lieberman's coalition of Peace Party/Democrats/Republicans want to get through is blocked by Patriots and CRN.

This trend of radicalization continues until before the Presidential election 1996: Polls are showing no majority anymore for the three moderate parties -- Lieberman/Bush (Peace Party, Democrats, Republicans) reach 35%, Buchanan (Patriots) 40% and Vidal (CRN) 25%.

The Democrats, Peace Party and Republicans are desperate. They know it would be most dangerous if Buchanan, with his radical platform, won the elections -- so they decide to split the voters of the Patriots with a coup:

They propose old Ronald Reagan, celebrated as "the great war President" by many supporters of the Patriots, to run again as President for a moderate coalition. They know this is the only way to attract a sufficient number of the right-wing voters to keep Buchanan from becoming elected President.

And indeed, Ronald Reagan, although his health condition is not the best, realizes that he has the responsibility not to let his country fall to far-right extremists, and accepts the proposal.

The plan of the moderate parties works out: After they announce their plan to nominate Reagan, the Patriots are divided about the question whether or not they should support Reagan. In the end, a large majority in the Congress of Peace Party, Democrats, Republicans and Patriots too changes the Amendment in the Constitution that limits the Presidency to two terms, in order to allow Reagan to run again. The Patriots decide not to run with a candidate on their own against Reagan, for two reasons: Most of their supporters are very fond of Reagan, the "great war President", and they don't want running the risk of Gore Vidal winning the election.

A certain number of Peace Party and Democrat members are enraged, because Reagan is responsible for the disaster in their eyes, so they are hesitant supporting him in the election. But they finally agree to the support of Reagan by their parties in the upcoming elections. They understand that Buchanan as President would be much worse.

In exchange for their support, and in order to attract Democratic and Peace Party voters, Ronald Reagan (Republican) puts Al Gore (Democrats) on his ticket as candidate for Vice President, and he promises to appoint Peace Party chairman Jesse Jackson Secretary of State again.

The Presidential Election 1996:

The 1996 Presidential elections sees two major candidates:

Ronald Reagan (Republican) -- common candidate of Peace Party, Democrats, Republicans and Patriots:
- Al Gore (Democrats) as VP
- Jesse Jackson (Peace Party) as Secretary of State
- mixed centrist government of Democrats, Republicans and Peace Party
- restoring order against leftist protests and improving the horrible economic condition
- reuniting the country

Gore Vidal (CRN):
- Huey Newton (CRN) as running mate for VP
- the same as 1992

Ronald Reagan, supported by four parties (Republicans, Democrats, Peace Party and even Patriots), wins in a landslide, with 70% against Gore Vidal/Huey Newton (CRN) who reach 30%.

And indeed, the plan seems to work out: Reagan's Presidency, his mixed "government of unity" with moderates of the three moderate parties, and his glorious image as "great war President" seems to give the country a new sense of unity.

The support for Patriots and CRN is dropping and the moderate parties get an updraft. The economy also recovers slowly, the unemployment rate slightly sinks from 25% to 15%. The protests on the streets calm down, and a certain sense of patriotic unity has come back to the people.

The Democrats and Republicans are the clear winners of the Congress elections in 1998: The Peace Party loses a considerable number of their seats, Patriots fall below 25% and the CRN below 15% of the seats.

In the meantime, Mikhail Gorbachev has become new leader of the Soviet Union. He seems to be much more compromising than his predecessor and Secretary of State Jesse Jackson (Peace Party) starts talks with Gorbachev about a revision of the peace conditions. Jackson makes slow progress, he achieves some more slackening of the reparation sum and the question of the American troop size.

But suddenly in January 1999, there is a huge crash on the US stock market: The stocks are collapsing, causing a national economic crisis. Within the next months, hundreds of companies go bankrupt, even banks. The unemployment rate jumps from 15% to 30% until August 1999, everything which was left of the middle class impoverishes. Experts compare this crash to the Great Depression of the 1920s and 30s.

The fragile normalization and social stability is gone again -- there are violent protests on the streets, the CRN gets an updraft once again, blaming the "capitalistic system" and "their racists puppets in the established parties" for the crash -- the Patriots on the other hand once again blame "these so called moderates in the government who have sold us out to the Communists".

In this situation of public uproar, a gifted public speaker emerges as new head of the protests: An independent far-right Senator, John Brown of Oklahoma, soon becomes the figurehead of the protests. He becomes increasingly popular, because of his extraordinary rhetoric talent that seems to hit a nerve in the disastrous economic situation. His speeches are almost hypnotizing. He propagates an extremely conservative worldview: "****", "flag burners" and "atheists" are nothing but the expression of a decadency that has made the country weak - that's why the US lost the war in his eyes. he also blames the Civil Rights Movement of the 60s and 80s for social decay, emphasizing the role that the civil rights groups have played in the peace protests in 1988. Such people belong to prison, because they are traitors, in their blindness supporting the enemy. Liberal decadence and "socialism of the state-fixated leftists in the government" have lead to the economic breakdown - "and those godless criminals who have first lost the war and then let *us* pay for it alone now pillage the common people". There is no speech without him mentioning a "new patriotism for an again united America", a "bright future" when America once will have "shattered the disgracing communist dictate".

Brown founds a new party, the American Awakening Party, which gains new members incredibly fast. Especially many members of the Patriots switch over to Brown's Awakening Party. Polls soon show public support for his party at about 30%. His vision of a new unity of the divided people, as well as him being the only politician to reject the peace treaty that radically, appeals to a lot of different demographics. Even some leftists and those many right-leaning middle class people impoverished by the crisis, are baited by his ideas of free health-care and unemployment support "for all American patriots".

The new founded FOX NEWS network, whose owner Rupert Murdoch is a close personal friend of Brown, supports Brown's cause, by giving him and his fellow party members overproportionate airtime in its program, advancing his arguments in numerous talkshows.

Brown's American Awakening Party has an aggressive approach of addressing very different demographics of voters -- Brown combines far-right social ideas with almost socialist ideas on the economy (he calls that "compassionate patriotism" ), which appeals to the far-right as much as to many leftists. Soon polls see the Awakening Party between 30% and 40% support. Many voters see in Brown's charisma, and his revolutionary ideas a way to resurrect strength and pride to America.

Brown's Awakening Party finds massive support from right-leaning militias in Southern states, and as the 2000 Presidential election comes closer, there are massive fights once again on the streets again, numerous clashes between right-wing militias and mostly black supporters of the leftist CRN. Dozens of people get killed on the streets, it takes the police several days to restore order.

In this situation, old and ill President Ronald Reagan (Republicans), although hardly in a health condition to do so, decides that it is his patriotic to run for President once again, in order to unite the country. He believes he is the only candidate who could keep Brown (Awakening Party) from being elected President. But he sees that he would not be able to unite the country, if he did not encompass Brown's Awakening Party.

So he proposes Senator John Brown (Awakening Party) to join his campaign as running mate for VP, and offers him certain compromises regarding political positions. Reagan thinks that this way, he will be able to control this new radical movement, taming it, keeping it from becoming a threat. "We will enframe him with moderate Republicans, and within one month, we will be able to squeeze him", Reagan tells a confident. "Let's put Colin Powell to his right side and John McCain to his left, and he will think twice before he gets nasty again." John Brown (Awakening Party) accepts the offer to run as Reagan's VP.

The coalition of the three moderate parties, Democrats, Republicans and Peace Party falls into a severe quarrel about whether or not they should support Reagan in the upcoming elections -- is he really the lesser evil, or would they invite evil by supporting a VP John Brown? Especially many Democrats and Peace Party members also consider Reagan's (Republicans) health condition and age a risk -- is he still up for the job of President, and even taming radical Brown within the government?

In the end, the Republicans and Patriots decide to support Reagan once again, while the Democrats and the Peace Party decide to run with a candidate on their own: They nominate Vice President Al Gore (Democrat) for the Presidential election. Gore puts Jesse Jackson (Peace Party) on his ticket as running mate for Vice President.

Al Gore and Jesse Jackson now reach out to the CRN, attempting to get their support in order to prevent Reagan and Brown from becoming elected. Jackson addresses Huey Newton: "The upcoming election is most decisive. We cannot run the risk of a radical such as Brown being elected into the government. We need a united left -- this is why I ask for your support. Mr Newton, please don't run in this election against our candidacy. We have to stand together!"

But Huey Newton (CRN) replies: "Mr Jackson, your party, as well as your allies in the Democratic party, have slaughtered our brothers, black people, poor people who were asking for nothing but food, shelter and mere survival, with brute force in 1989. We asked for bread, but you gave us bullets! There is no significant difference between all the puppets of the status quo, no matter if they are called Reagan, Brown, Nader or Gore -- we are the only party that stands for a real change, for an end to discrimination and poverty. We can't abandon our supporters who are longing for an end to their nightmares. That is why I say: No way! No support for Gore, Jackson or any other butcher of 1989!"

Because of this, there are 3 major candidates in the elections:

The Presidential Election 2000:

Ronald Reagan (Republican) -- supported by Republicans, Patriots and American Awakening Party
- John Brown (Awakening Party) as VP
- Pat Buchanan (Patriots) as Secretary of the Interior
- Colin Powell (Republican) as Secretary of State
- John McCain (Republican) as Attorney General
- a mixed right-wing government of Republicans, Patriots and Awakening Party members
- stricter laws against treason, public uproar
- strictly conservative positions on social issues

Al Gore (Democrat) -- supported by Democrats and Peace Party
- Jesse Jackson (Peace Party) as VP
- mixed government of Democrats and Peace Party members
- "saving the country from far-right extremism and chaos"
- moderate positions on social and economic questions

And:

Gore Vidal (CRN) -- running for the leftist Civil Rights Now!-Party
- Huey Newton (CRN) as running mate for VP
- same as 1992 and 1996

In the end, Ronald Reagan/John Brown, supported by Republicans, Patriots and Awakening Party, win clearly with 45%, against Al Gore/Jesse Jackson (35%) and Gore Vidal/Huey Newton (20%).

In January 2001, Ronald Reagan (Republican) is inaugurated again as US President, and radical Oklahoma Governor John Brown (Awakening Party) becomes VP. Reagan now forms a right-leaning government with ministers from the Republican Party, the Patriots and Brown's Awakening Party.

Reagan enframes radical Brown and Buchanan with moderate Republican ministers: Colin Powell becomes Secretary of State and John McCain Attorney General. Many other important positions are given to moderates, in order to balance out Brown.

In the first few months, President Reagan's plan seems to work out: Because Brown's Awakening Party has to work together with these moderate Republicans in the government, it becomes much more moderate than before, and it loses some public support.

But in July 2001, Ronald Reagan's health condition deteriorates dramatically, and after two weeks in a hospital, he declares his resignation as US President -- Vice President John Brown becomes the new President.

(... continuation)

President Brown celebrates his new position as "a turning point in American history", the "beginning of a powerful awakening of this great country".

Then suddenly, on September 11th 2001, Islamist radicals direct three airplanes into the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon, murdering more than 3000 people -- America is in a shock.

President Brown addresses the public: "This is a national crisis. I, the US President, will do everything in my power to solve this crisis, with all means necessary! And this was not just the attack of foreign Muslims on our country, no, they have had many supporters from within! This so called "Civil Rights Movement" is a hotbed of leftist traitors and Muslims -- we will take care of them. We will find all traitors within our borders, and bring them to justice! "

On September 13th 2001 already, President Brown pushes a law through Congress: The "Patriot Act", which allows severe restrictions on Constitutional rights. In the night from September 13th to 14th, about 10,000 US citizens get arrested and deported to Guantanamo Bay, most of them black members of the CRN. Due to the "Patriot Act", they are denied legal assistance and fair trials. Huey Newton (CRN) and Gore Vidal (CRN) are among them too. They are being accused of having assisted the Islamists on 9/11. The police also arrests all members of the CRN in the Congress and in state legislatures and governments.

Because of the shock after 9/11, a majority of Americans supports these steps.

President Brown now claims: "The communist CRN, the so called civil rights movement, and their black Muslim friends are planning a revolution in this country. They are planning to fight away the legitimate government, and what we have seen on 9/11 was only the beginning. But I can assure you, I will do everything which is necessary to prevent this from happening!"

Large parts of the press and media, especially the new FOX News network, are supporting President Brown's theory of a leftist takeover by the CRN -- fear among the population grows that soon, there will be another terrorist attack, combined with an open uprising initiated by the CRN and black power groups.

Brown's allegations work out as a self-fulfilling prophecy: Many CRN supporters immediately start protests on the streets against the arrest of Vidal and Newton, which Brown then claims is proof for their alleged revolution. He orders the police to strike down the protests. Dozens are killed, hundreds arrested.

President Brown presents himself as "tough on terrorism and leftist groups", and pushes for a new law to be enacted: The Enabling Act. This law would allow his government to get through laws without approval by the Congress, "until the current crisis will be resolved". The law is limited to 6 months.

President Brown asks the public to support this law: "We are in an extreme situation now, and we have to react quickly to prevent a leftist and black Muslim takeover in America. The threat is not over yet! Because of that, my government needs unlimited executive power, without limitations by the process -- and we only need that until the current crisis will be over. I promise, once America is safe again, I will turn down this power."

October 15th 2001, with an overwhelmingly positive media echo, the Congress approves of the Enabling Act, turning its own power over to the President. Republicans, Patriots, Awakening Party and several Democrats support it -- only the Peace Party and parts of the Democrats vote against it. The CRN members have already been removed from Congress by the police.

Once President Brown has full executive and legislative powers in his hands, he starts showing his true colors:

In December 2001, he fires all moderate politicians, like Colin Powell and John McCain from his government and replaces them with hardliners from his party. John Ashcroft (Awakening Party) is appointed new Attorney General.

Then he makes laws that criminalize all forms of treason, which factually allows him to arrest whomever he wants. Soon, many opposition politicians vanish in prisons. Jesse Jackson (Peace Party), who had signed the peace treaty with the USSR as Secretary of State, is being tried in front of a military drumhead and executed after 2 days for "treason".

Several politicians of Democrats, Peace Party and even Republicans speak up against this step, among them Arkansas Governor Bill Clinton and John McCain. President Brown orders the police to take them into custody "for their own safety". After a few days, "secret CIA intelligence" is given to the press, according to which Bill Clinton has raped at least four interns in his office of Governor, and McCain allegedly started contacts with the Soviets while he had been Minister of Justice, committing treason against his country. FOX News and other parts of the media keep broadcasting these revelations nonstop. McCain is deported to Guantanamo Bay "for further interrogation on his treasonous acts" and Clinton tried in front of a drumhead for sexual harassment and rape.

At this point, large parts of the leaderships of Democrats, Peace Party and Republicans, such as Al Gore, Ralph Nader and Colin Powell realize their situation has become most dangerous and hastily leave the USA, most of them vanish to Canada or Australia. The three parties decompose.

In January 2002, Brown enacts a law that determines that all state governors will not be elected by the state citizens, but appointed by his government.

Despite these actions, a majority of Americans still support all these measures, because they still see it as necessary evil to fight against the Islamist threat -- and the significant minority who believes these actions are going way too far, are intimidated by the repression on Brown's opposition, so they don't dare speaking up.

The few journalists who dare to call Brown's actions "totalitarian", or criticizing them with less harsh words, vanish in prisons, or are executed in front of drumheads for "treason against the American people". From this day on, no journalist dares ever again to write anything critical of the President.

The whole media turns into a gigantic propaganda machine: President Brown installs a government committee, which has the purpose of "counseling" and "informing" the journalists. Factually, the newspapers have to print whatever this committee proposes, or the journalists will face persecution for treason.

Attorney General John Ashcroft (Awakening Party), proposes a new program: "Operation TIPS" supposes to install a net of informants and snitches, who are watching their neighbors and co-workers for "suspicious" and "treasonous" behavior and statements, which they report to the authorities. After a few months only, there is no company and no apartment block without at least one "Operation TIPS" snitch. Thousands of "traitors" are imprisoned within the next weeks. People opposing Brown are increasingly intimidated and feel naked fear. People critical of Brown stop talking about politics at the workplace or with neighbors, but keep their opinions to themselves, out of fear of being arrested.

In may 2002, Brown enacts a law that makes all political parties besides his Awakening Party illegal, and declares his party to the official state party of the USA. The Patriots decide to join the Awakening Party, while Democrats, Republicans and Peace Party are hardly existent anymore, because most of the leading personnel has escaped to Canada -- there are only few protests. "No longer will the people be divided! We will find a new union in a glory way into a bright future! From this day on, unity will replace vain bickery! I don't know any parties anymore, I only know my duty to the American people!"

The few protests that arise in the country against this step are struck down with massive police force, and President Brown labels this opposition "communist traitors" in numerous speeches. Thousands are imprisoned.

The state controlled media celebrates this step as "great step towards a long awaited unity of the country, the end of 14 years of division and unrest." Those opposers and protesters accusing Brown of destroying democracy are labeled "communist" and "islamist traitors" is the official propaganda.

Despite all these actions, the approval rate of President Brown is rather high, because the people considers him as "tough against terrorism and communism", and because the economy recovers considerably -- and because no opposing voices are published any longer. One half of the people is blinded by the nonstop propaganda in the media, enthusiastically supporting President Brown, while the other half is intimidated, in naked fear for survival, envisioning the fate of the CRN and the moderates -- so they don't dare speaking up.

In January 2003, Brown openly breaks the peace treaty with the USSR: He enforces armament of the US forces, the number of soldiers soon surpasses the 200,000 soldiers limit. Also, he stops the deportation of nuclear facilities to the USSR, and enforces the development of new modern nuclear weapons. There is a massive rearmament effort.

Soviet leader Gorbachev ignores this obvious breach of the treaty, he does not take any action against the USA. "My predecessor has treated the USA way too harsh. When we just allow them to become an independent nation again, when we fulfill their legitimate demands, they will be content and pose no threat", Gorbachev explains in Pravda. The American people celebrate this open violation of the treaty as liberation, and Brown's approval rate even increases.

In numerous speeches, President Brown keeps the fear of the inner enemy -- revolutionary black Muslims and leftists -- alife, to justify all of his actions. His tone becomes more and more racist, time and again he connects "the blacks" to the disastrous defeat in 1988 and to 9/11, suggesting all blacks are Muslim sympathizers and traitors.

Under supervision by the government, Hollywood produces several big budget movies portraying blacks as treasonous leftists, lazy parasites who live from the labour of white people. These movies extensively stress that many blacks are allegedly Muslims.

The state controlled media perpetuates this propaganda and excessively advertises these movies.

Ann Coulter publishes a new book, called "Treason: How the Black Movement Destroyed America in 1988 and how Black Muslims Conspired with the Enemy on 9/11". Because of massive advertisement in the media, it soon becomes a bestseller. President Brown appoints Coulter to Minister for Education and her book becomes compulsory part of the curriculum in American high schools.

In April 2003, President Brown's government enacts a law that reintroduces racial segregation. Government spokesman Bill O'Reilly explains: "The civil rights movement has led to the peace protests that are responsible for our defeat in 1988. And on 9/11, black Muslims cooperated with foreign terrorists. Obviously, blacks have proven they are way too irresponsible to deserve equality. They have a racial predisposition for laziness and treason."

Laws are made than determine blacks are not allowed to work in the administration, as policement, soldiers, lawyers or doctors. "We cannot afford to let our administration be infiltrated by Communists and Islamists", President Brown explains.

At this point, there are no protests anymore, because there is no free press anymore and all opposing voices are not published. Instead, the news networks are broadcasting nonstop support for Brown's positions, quoting many "experts" on racial questions who support the new law. FOX News is the most vocal supporter of Brown's actions again. Government spokesman Bill O'Reilly is omnipresent in the media, justifying the new laws: "It's a sad truth that one half of all blacks in America are Communists, the other half are Islamists."

A majority is supporting Brown, blinded by the propaganda in the media and the significant minority disagreeing with him is intimidated and afraid of persecution, so they remain silent.

President Brown manages to push down the unemployment rate to 5%, by huge state financed programs to create labour, especially in the armament sector and in the army. Again, his approval rate grows.

The 2004 elections are not free and democratic anymore: Since there is no free press, no independent control, Brown's party manipulates the elections: According to the official result, Brown wins with 98.9% of the votes.

The "Enabling Act" is prolonged indefinitely by the Congress, with unanimous agreement.

On 9/10/2005, a black man shoots a government official. This incident is hyped by President Brown's government: "This was a declaration of war by all blacks on the American people. Now America will strike back!", Brown declares.

In the night of 9/11/2005, thousands of racist farmers in Southern states, hatemongered by the official propaganda and supported by the police are burning houses and shops of blacks. Hundreds of blacks are killed. Brown's propaganda claims that "this was a spontanous reaction by decent Americans against this black murder".

Within three years, between 2003 and January 2006, Brown has massively re-armed the USA: The standing army encompasses 1.4 million soldiers now, and the military has been equipped with most modern arms, bombers and tanks.

In march 2006, President orders US troops to invade independent Texas and Cuban Florida -- the soldiers are welcomed as liberators from Soviet oppression, the people in Texas and Florida celebrate Brown as the reuniter of America.

But instead of declaring war, Soviet leader Gorbachev once again ignores this blatant violation of the peace treaty. He only sends a warning to the USA: "Any attack on Alaska or Hawaii will be considered as an act of war." Gorbachev still believes once Texas and Florida have been returned to the USA, Brown will have no further demands.

The American people celebrates President Brown, and the reunification with Texas and Florida. Brown's approval rate is now as high as never before -- many believe he has indeed restored the old greatness and strength to America. Even many opponents have finally given in, they have lost hope and have sunken into passive pessimism, or even start seeing "the good sides" to Brown's government.

In October 2006, Brown finally orders a large-scale invasion on Alaska, Hawaii and Cuba ...

Wow. Well written.

I've (more or less) understood how Hitler managed to get into power, but this was still quite informative.

It was smart to pick "John Brown" to be Hitler, but you still portrayed a lot of real people/organizations in a horrible light. You name several real people, and basically equate them with high level Nazi officials, or being integral to the Nazi propaganda machine. I think that no matter your views on those people, it would be better if you picked pseudonyms for them too.

Yes, I have to admit this story is politically biased. ;)

And I understand when people feel uncomfortable when I include figures such as John Ashcroft, Ann Coulter or Bill O'Reilly as evil Nazi officials ... I admit those were partisan sniper attacks. ;)

But I have to include real, existing individuals to make the story comprehensible ... for example, I think replacing Buchanan, Newton, Vidal and Reagan in their respective roles would take a lot from the story. And I don't think they are portrayed as outright "evil". I think their reactions are understandable, from their respective positions, and not too much "out of character".

As for Ashcroft, his "Operation TIPS" was a real plan he actually wanted to implement after 9/11! I couldn't resist including him and this plan in the story, naturally. Since TIPS was skipped, many people maybe don't even know about that, but it was a really frightening idea (which definitely wouldn't have been much different from similar programs in Nazism or communist states).

And Ann Coulter definitely is a hateful, bigoted partisan hack. She fits the role very well, I believe, although I understand people might object she'd write outright racist stuff. Same for O'Reilly.

I agree, you definitely should keep some of the people ( Buchanan, Newton, Vidal and Reagan) real - it sets the political landscape much better.

Personally, I don't really mind if you want to equate Ashcroft (etc) with Nazis, but I also wouldn't do it myself.

Yes. Talk about biased.

I am surprised you didn't take every single conservative out there and put them as stormtroopers.

Like the other side doesn't have issues. And when you consider the amount of rights being lost like in Nazi germany, seems like there is a good argument based towards liberals being nazi's.

Registration leads to confiscation.

Now that axiom, who does it most apply to? Conservatives? Or liberals?
---

And instead of giving a lengthy history lesson, you create a lengthy fictional basis.

How about a very simple answer...

After WWI, Germany suffered from an unfair compensation. That caused resentment. That resentment lead to a leader being elected who created a scapegoat. WWII results.

4 sentences vs. 400.

Well, you have to be fair. Reagan, McCain and Powell are depicted as clearly not fascist.

As for Ashcroft, I did not even invent his "Operation TIPS". It was a real plan he had in mind. So the story really wrote itself. So don't blame me, blame him.

And Coulter really is a fascist. If there is any publisher in the US today whose rhetorics resemble fascism, it's Coulter. I mean seriously, branding all liberals alltogether with the label "traitor", an offense that can be punished with death? Openly calling homosexuals "****"? Sorry, but again, the story wrote itself. Blame her, not me.

Sorry, but liberals do not resemble Nazis. Many far-right people, on the other hand, do very well. Is racism a liberal or a right speciality? Is jingoism a liberal, or a right speciality? Go figure.

If this silly simplification applies to any political side in general, it have to be conservatives. Warrantless wiretapping? Extralegal renditions? Security forces may even take your laptop at airports and search it, without a warrant? Registration which books you read in a library? The systematic policy of torture?

All of these forms of "registration" were initiated by "conservatives". Although one might argue, since neocons and theocons have taken over the Republican Party, it no longer is a truly conservative party.

And don't even try to bring up this outdated, absurd prejudice that liberals want "big state", while conservative want a "small state". This may have been true for Goldwater and Reagan, but Bush's policies of the past 8 years have nothing to do whatsoever with "small government".

If you want to know more about Bush's big government policies, and how big government people have taken over the Reps, check out this book: Amazon.com: Leviathan on the Right: How Big-Government Conservativism Brought Down the Republican Revolution: Michael D. Tanner: Books

Don't worry, it was not written by "liberals". It was written by people who are fond of the small government tradition of the Republicans.

With simple answers comes a problem: They are so short and reduce the facts to a minimum, that they lose their explanatory power and often become simply wrong. That's the case with your short summary.

There are many more factors to consider to understand the rise of Nazism, than just resentment against reparations.

That many people are happy with simplifying prejudices is the reason why so many people will never learn from history, and draw the wrong conclusions from it. Like the completely absurd, silly and uneducated assumption "liberals resemble Nazism", or "talking to foreign leaders is appeasement". Hail idiocracy!

Coulter misses some very important aspects in order to be "fascist".

And it is no different than me claiming someone like that pig Moore is a communist. Or some other extreme leftist is communist for thinking all republicans are traitors, etc.

In the end, it is just their opinion, likely put out there more for shock value and attention.

No. Liberals resemble communists. Bigger and bigger government control. Smaller and smaller free enterprise.

As for racism...racism is not just a conservative issue. Racism knows no boundaries.

For example...

We can look at Lincoln. Won the Republican party nomination. The "radical republicans" criticized Lincoln for not moving fast enough on abolition.

Or closer to this time period, I would present that selling yourself as pro-minority and never doing anything to raise them up from their stations in life is racist. I would argue that any law that is based in racism, even if it helps minorities, is racist.

What party does that sound like?

Let's make a comparison then...of what you put up above.

Would you say Canada is MORE conservative, or more liberal?

Do you realize Canada does illegal wiretapping? It has been caught several times. There have been many situations where the police in Canada have started investigations into people not because they had probable cause, or reasonable suspicion even, but because they just wanted to check to see if anything illegal was happening.

And what do you refer to as "torture". Another one of those bumper sticker slogans about waterboarding?

You are aware that the US puts its own soldiers through waterboarding?

So if we get this correct, we can waterboard our own, and it isn't torture, but if you do it to an enemy combatant, then we are the big bad evil?

How about similar ones in Chicago?

Or look north of the border. Which party did the registration for that nation?

LOL.

Thank you for bringing up that aspect.

For what it shows is that BUSH is not conservative. In fact, he doesn't call himself conservative at all, does he?

No. Instead, he has created a new term to explain his policies. He calls it "compassionate conservative."

Now, when you ARE conservative, you call yourself that. When you aren't conservative, you add some term (compassionate) to reclassify what you are.

It is no different than me suddenly stating I am a "preservative liberal" and then doing everything that a true conservative would do. Just because I run democrat, and have liberal in the name, doesn't make me liberal, and it doesn't make me democrat.

Again, Bush is NOT conservative.

You even admitted to such.

Go read your first post.

Read that part where you complain about having to give a LONG history.

Then realize that instead of sticking to a LONG history (which you complain about), you created a LONG fictitious situation based on today.

And they don't even have anything close to the same outcome, do they?

Maybe you stick with history, and let the fantasy stay when you watch internet porn.

Talking to foreign leaders is not appeasement.

Talking to your enemies and never taking action, constantly giving in, IS appeasement.

And that applies to democrats more than conservatives.

If it was up to liberals, they would let world public opinion rule american policy. Now there is another term one could use for doing that very action, and you might want to see Ann Coulter to figure out what it is (hint: Traitor).

If it was up to liberals, there would never be an end to the yap yap yap.

If it was up to liberals, their entire policy of dealing with terrorism would be to give the world a coke, and a big group hug, as we all sing kumbaya around a campfire.

If you knew even the first thing about German history, you'd recognize that the Nazis employed the very same kind of reasoning and rhetorics Coulter employs. Had she lived in Germany 1933, she would have been the very first to cheer for Hitler.

I'm just pointing that out.

If you'd know the first thing about political philosophy, you'd realize how silly your claims are. You cannot even distinguish between such diametrically opposed concepts such as "communism", "socialism", "social democracy" and "social liberalism".

And again, the Republicans under Bush are much more in favor of bigger government than the Democrats. So really, your claims are nothing but myths and over-generalizing prejudices.

But what do I expect from a country where the people even is proud they are dumb, uneducated morons, by considering education a reason not to vote for an "elitist" candidate ...

That's true. But you can hardly claim "liberals" or even "progressive" people are racist to the same degree as, say, the common white redneck in a Southern state, can you?

Sorry, but I can't make anything of this drivel. It just doesn't make any sense and defies reason. Maybe you can elaborate further.

I suspect you will soon out yourself as a bigoted racist when you do, by spouting racist clichés such as "affirmative action is discrimination against whites" or such. Wouldn't surprise me.

I don't know many details about Canada, but compared to America, it is sane. Don't know if that means it is more liberal.

By the way, your American labels for political directions are historically inaccurate. "Liberalism" as a philosophy meant (and everywhere on this planet still does, except for the US) people who emphasize small state, civil rights and free economy.

What you call "liberalism" actually is "social liberalism" or "social democracy" or "progressivism" in terms of political philosophy.

But Canada does not kidnap innocent people from the streets of allied democracies, it does not illegally detain innocent people, deny them a fair trial and torture them.

Heil Bush!

Quote:
And what do you refer to as "torture". Another one of those bumper sticker slogans about waterboarding?
Everybody on this planet considers the "harsh interrogation methods" employed by the Bush regime as classic torture. They are the same means the Gestapo, SS and Soviet secret police used. You can visit former concentration camps or secret police prisons there, which are museums now, and take a tour guided by a former victim. He can explain to you why it's a Nazi-like 1984-resembling "newspeak" to deny it's torture.

By the way, if you don't believe me, check out my contributions in the thread "Who do you vote for?". There I have explained all these points in detail, and also linked to sources.

Quote:
You are aware that the US puts its own soldiers through waterboarding?
Do you know the difference between consensual sex and rape, and thus why both aren't just the same, because both are "sex"?

Calling waterboarding "not torture" is like euphemistically calling rape "unconsensual surprise sex".

At any rate, waterboarding was a favorite means of torture for the Gestapo and SS, for the Soviet secret service and for Saddam's police. Nice company you rednecks got there.

Quote:

Only America lives according to the sick notion private gun ownership is a good thing. Good luck with that, and take care not to be shot.

Then why do you complain when I present Ashcroft and Coulter in a bad light in the story? They aren't conservative either, because they are in favor of the biggest government ever.

They want the government to control even the bedrooms of innocent people. They want the government to control every single step of innocent citizens. They want the government to deny innocent people fair trials, and detain them indefinitely. They want the government to use torture. They want the biggest government sector, the army, to be expanded.

If advocating "small government" is a prerequisite for being "conservative", those who you defended, like Ashcroft and Coulter, are the least conservative people in America.

Quote:
Again, Bush is NOT conservative.
It's silly to redefine reality, when it doesn't support your stances. People who call themselves "conservatives" suddenly are no "real conservatives" anymore, the moment you want to distance yourself from them? On the other side, you have no problem with broad-brushing people of very different political leanings as "liberal", or even "communist".

If you want people to differentiate, you should go ahead with a good example, and restrain from generalizing all you don't like as "communists" or "liberals".

Quote:
You put a bias on things.

You even admitted to such.
Sure. But I don't think there is no truth to it. Of course the story becomes controversial and righties will feel attacked. But that's life. I'm here to explain to them why Coulter and Ashcroft would have been the very first to cheer, had they lived in Germany in 1933. Their mindset is Nazist.

Go read your first post.

Read that part where you complain about having to give a LONG history.

Then realize that instead of sticking to a LONG history (which you complain about), you created a LONG fictitious situation based on today.
I did not complain the true story would have been "too long", but "too boring", because many Americans would likely find it boring to read about completely alien politicians and movements.

That's why I attempted to "sex up" the topic a little by writing the story.

And they don't even have anything close to the same outcome, do they?
Uhm, have you ever taken a history class about the history of Nazism?

Maybe you stick with history, and let the fantasy stay when you watch internet porn.
Uhhh... I've hit a nerve, have I? ;)

Quote:
Talking to foreign leaders is not appeasement.

Talking to your enemies and never taking action, constantly giving in, IS appeasement.
Indeed. Yet American righties instantly call "appeasement" the moment negotiations are even proposed, just negotiations, not surrendering or giving in anything.

These rabid, jingoistic American righties know nothing about history, nothing about appeasement and have learnt nothing from history.

Quote:
If it was up to liberals, they would let world public opinion rule american policy. Now there is another term one could use for doing that very action, and you might want to see Ann Coulter to figure out what it is (hint: Traitor).
American public opinion believed 70% of the people Saddam was responsible for 9/11. According to American public opinion, 15% of Americans believe Obama is a Muslim.

Your statement makes no sense whatsoever.

Quote:
If it was up to liberals, there would never be an end to the yap yap yap.

If it was up to liberals, their entire policy of dealing with terrorism would be to give the world a coke, and a big group hug, as we all sing kumbaya around a campfire.
I guess you know yourself how absurd this statement is, and that is disqualifies you as a serious debater.

i might be able to get away with what I'm going to say without sparking a different topic. The reason why those things happened has nothing to do with situations. The reason why their was a person named Adolph Hitler, and a group called the Nazi's was because they were part of the human race and the the human race is fallible, and imperfect. I'm not blaming this on free will but in the end they di have a choice, but they were brainwashed, and were used by an Evil genius to try and take over the world. See Hitler had the right idea, but he just used it on the wrong people.
