Telecom amnesty still on the table (McCain's statements)

Just wanted to link to this superb post by Greenwald on the Telecom amnesty problem, and why it's still an issue. (Also includes McCain's latest statements on Telecom amnesty, and a brief summary of the Telecom lobby contributions to his and others' campaigns):
How telecoms are attempting to buy amnesty from Congress - Glenn Greenwald - Salon.com
Quote:
One of the benefits from the protracted battle over telecom amnesty is that it is a perfect microcosm for how our government institutions work. And a casual review of the available evidence regarding how telecom amnesty is being pursued demonstrates what absurd, irrelevant distractions are the pro-amnesty justifications offered by the pundit class and the Bush administration.

McCain's going to be continually dogged because while he's been a leading crusader for campaign finance reform, during the summer of 2007 when he ran out of money he totally caved to lobbyists. Granted, it kept him alive and won him the nomination six months later, however now he's in debt to big interests much more than he'd like to given his stances on soft money and the like.
