Rasmussen Reports™: The most comprehensive public opinion coverage ever provided for a presidential election. So let me think, we have a democratic controlled congress and 91% of the nation DOES NOT approve of what it is doing. How is putting the most liberal Democrat in the US into the White House "change" of any sort? Sure, "change" is possible. We can go from bad to worse. The Democrats are bashing McCain as "Bush Term 3". Um, yeah right. Why not look at the current Democrat controlled congress with a 9% approval rating and consider Obama the final nail in the coffin. If only 9% approve of how the current Democratic controlled congress is running right now, why should we pick the most liberal Democrat in the US and put him in charge of EVERYTHING? |

Come on, let's not play the statistical disinformation game. Americans' approval rating for Congress has been below 50% and falling sharply for the last several years, beginning at roughly the second year mark of the Iraq War, long before the 2006 Democratic takeover.
Chart: http://media.gallup.com/poll/graphs/..._swn98fna0.gif 2005 news article: Poll: Dissatisfaction with Congress - Politics - MSNBC.com Those who follow politics (as opposed to FOXNews-esque propaganda) as closely as I do know the following to be true: the primary reason that most Americans are so thoroughly dissatisfied with the current Democrat-controlled Congress is that it has been unable to marginalize the Bush Administration's policies, most notably regarding the war. This inability, of course, is due to the fact that the party hasn't the 60 seats needed to override Presidential vetos. In short, they're cockblocked - and the people are pissed. Despite this, there is a clear consensus among pundits and pollsters, including even the most conservative, that not only will the vast majority of incumbents be returned to Congress this fall, the Democrats are all but assured of increasing their numerical advantage. Another reason voters are so thoroughly disappointed with Congress is that most Americans believe Bush's actions while in office, and Cheney's even more so, have risen to the level of impeachable offenses and that proceedings to that effect should be instituted (11/07 poll: Impeachment). To the electorate's dismay, Congressional leadership has consistently downplayed calls for impeachment, speculation being that again they simply don't have the needed votes (in this case a two-thirds majority of 67) and don't want to bog down Capitol business with such time- and resource-consuming proceedings if the eventual end product would be nil. However, with the upcoming elections poised to tilt the scales even further in favor of the Dems, things are quietly happening behind the scenes. I watched on C-SPAN today as Senator Biden held a Q&A session in Deerfield Beach, FL and in response to one question he assured the audience that legislative heavyweights (Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and House Judiciary Committee chair John Conyers, to name but two) are methodically gathering facts in preparation for potential future hearings on the alleged illegal acts committed by the Demonic Duo and their dutiful henchmen (my paraphrase there) in flagrant and willful violation of democracy defined, our great Nation's hallowed Constitution. Stick around, folks. This show ain't near over. Incidentally, calling Senator Obama "the most liberal Democrat in the US" goes beyond rhetorical hyperbole and into the comic realm of the bizarrely ridiculous. I sincerely hope, Hybrix, that you're better informed by whatever sources you favor than to believe such an unwarranted accusation as that to be fact. Last edited by Tucker; 09-03-2008 at 03:12 AM.. Individuals in the United States may either approve or disapprove of how "Congress" is doing, but they can only vote for their own Representative and Senators.

Congress has been at 9% for a while now and I really don't care if it's Democrat or Republican controlled, it still needs a serious overhaul.

It doesn't help that Bush vetoes everything they do and you need a 2/3 vote to override the veto. Dems barely control the White House so it's almost a 50/50 split between Dems and Reps. There aren't enough Democrats to override the veto.

This is why the Palin pick may the the most brilliant pick ever. She's the only one on the ticket that's not part of Congress. She is capable of producing huge positive numbers. link America is hungry for a leader we can believe in. Even if that leader is on the #2 spot, it still satisfies that void.
