Just as long as you understand that the economic policies advocated by Obama are different than those of Marx, you can refer to them as whatever you like.

I said 'nationalist'. Not 'patriot'. And no, not all nationalists are fascists. Though, I do think that people who wrap themselves in a flag are often hiding something behind it.

We're not excited about going to war with Iran, but if they attack us or one of our allies, what choice do we have?
You make it sound like the US doesn't engage in a preventive war. After what happened in Iraq (who was not attacking but was attacked for some hypothetical danger), what would stop the US from doing the same thing to Iran especially if the next occupant of the White House is a person who fully agreed with preemptive strikes?

I'm going to post slightly off topic here. I was a Republican back in the early 90s. I remember being completely horrified at the thought of Bill Clinton as President. I was devastated when he won the election, I was sure the country was going to hell in a handbasket. But Clinton was not by a long shot the worst thing to ever happen to this country.

You people who are so terrified by the thought of Obama becoming president, you need to stop watching Fox News and Anne Coulter and any others who profit through playing off the fears of ordinary Americans.

Next time post a video that isn't a fanmade smear attempt or pick up his autobiography and read it thoroughly.

I am not going to lie after reading a majority of the thread it just seems that the conservatives care about the gestures of the flag pin/and seem to label him a socialist. They also have suspicions of his ties to the muslim faith.

While the liberals here seem to disregard these gestures, and do not label him a socialist. They also seem to think faith is irrelevant when trying to run the country.

I am reading Obama's book right now and he is talking about how the media propaganda, and politician exponentially try to divide the people of America into liberals and conservatives.

In reality Obama has some socialist tendancies. He is a democrat he admits being a democrat. However, this isnt an extreme socialism, we are not making over the capitilistic economy. He for globalization, free markets, etc he just believes some safety nets should be in place.

However he points out most Americans aren't terribly different from each other and they want mostly the same things.

I personally think it isnt relevant that he didnt wear a flag pin. It would have been a good gesture and politically it wasnt a smart move to go without it. But he has the right to make that choice. This is America and I dont think that people should be so focused on that gesture in questioning the mans ability to lead a nation.

I am sure that if Reagan did not wear a flag pin during the debates he would get flack from the media regardless (I dont know if he did or didn't it's hypothetical) but he also led a nation and is considered by most to be a successful president.

I think that most of the arguments in this thread are a bit petty. Someone of the conservatives should read up Obama's book, I know I have seen plenty of McCain's thoughts. And to be honest I like McCain.

I think though sometimes between the left and right and trying to divide everything into a political spectrum we get lost and forget that a majority of Americans consider themselves moderates.

I think both McCain and Obama are good canidates. I think both can bridge the gap a bit too.

In regards to the flag pin, Obama explained why he doesn't wear it-it's because he's more into acting patriotic than symbols. If you're going to attack his patriotism, attack him because he's actually done something unpatriotic.

Rev. Wright = John Hagee.

The Che Guevara thing is a massive leap.

On economics, he is in no way a socialist. He advocates a mixed economy, just like Bill Clinton did. And even with his proposals on healthcare and such, he's still nowhere near the collectivist that center-left and leftist European parties are. He doesn't oppose NAFTA on principle, just in the way it was implemented with little environmental and safety regulations, for example.

Can anyone find a photo of John McCain wearing a flag pin, because I can't. I would like him to start wearing one to prove his patriotism to me. I think I'll fire off a letter, and we'll see what the results are.
