Its funny you mention that. Those were the only two times that he actually voted in favor of guns.
They were the only votes to get to Senate. Please, show me these "Illinois" votes you're raving about. Let me guess.. he wants to ban fully automatic guns and limit how many you can buy? Boo Hoo.

No guns should be banned for the use of law abiding citizens. I've Googled Obamas Illinois record and can't find anything solid... the most I could find is this link

Voted against letting people argue self-defense in court if charged with violating local weapons bans by using a gun in their home. (2004)
Voted to let retired police and military police carry concealed weapons. (2004)
Successfully sponsored requirement that law enforcement videotape interrogations of suspects in some serious crimes. (2003)
Successfully sponsored law enforcement study of the race of people pulled over for traffic tickets. (2003)
Helped pass an overhaul of the state’s troubled death penalty system. (2003)
Unsuccessfully sponsored measure to expunge some criminal records and create an employment grant program for ex-criminals. (2002)
Unsuccessfully sponsored limit of one handgun purchase per month. (2000)
Voted against making gang members eligible for the death penalty if they kill someone to help their gang. (2001)

- I always find it amusing that people hate government bureaucracy so damn much i.e. DMV, building permits, post offices, taxes etc... yet they vote for the same morons that keep adding more and more bureaucratic bull**** to the already over inflated government bureaucracy we already have.

Yeah. Your arguments are failing fast. It must suck to be on a sinking ship.

The key phrase here is "violating local weapons bans." So you want people to be able to use illegal guns in their home? I'm all for self-defense with a gun... as long as that gun is legal and not fully automatic. You're arguing that people should have illegal guns in their house. Obama-3, You-0

And this is a problem to you? You just showed me another instance of Obama voting for legal concealed weapons. Obama-4, You-0

...What does this have to do with guns and self-defense? Also.. why shouldn't they be videotaped? Doesn't that help keep the suspect's rights from being voilated by illegal interrogation methods? Obama-5, You-0.

Death Penalty = bad AND more expensive than life in prison.

Does it say what kind of criminals? It is very hard for a reformed criminal to find a job. No job = more likely to commit crimes to get by again.

Congrats, you found a halfway decent argument. Who in their right mind really needs to buy more than one handgun in a month, anyway? It's not like he's taking away your right to buy a gun, he just wants to keep people from hoarding them as much as they could. Big ****ing deal. I don't even see how this is an issue for either side.

Again, death penalty = bad and expensive. Ten years of appeals and housing, plus the costs for the execution and care for the body, are way more expensive than what it would cost to keep a prisoner for life.

And if you even try to argue over-crowding I'm going to pull out my favorite argument and not move from it. Non-violent street criminals need to be dealt with in a way other than sending them off to prison. Jails and prisons aren't working.

A handgun is illegal in Chicago dude. In DC you can't even have a gun loaded in your home. If I PROTECTED myself with a handgun in Chicago the DA would come after me, never mind the guy that just tried to rob me with a knife to my gut.

The police cannot be there to protect me. I've had cops tell me this before too, they told me the only one who can protect me is me. Why do they get special treatment, are they above the law? I thought the people we're in charge of this country, not the police. Whats wrong with me carrying to protect myself? Obama opposes that.

Nothing. It was just another one that was in there.

Its my God given right. Thats a big enough issue to me. I don't need to answer to the Government, or get permission to buy a gun when they say I can. If I want more then one gun a month what buisness is it to them? Whats to say that they don't make it 6 months next, then a year, then 2 years. It's the first step to eroding the 2nd Amendment away. Obama won't do it fast, he'll do a slow bleed.

Violent criminals should be locked away forever. Murderers should be put to death. They have no place in society. You seem to have this backwards Steve... You and Obama want to prosecute law abiding citizens for having "illegal" guns that shouldn't even be illegal in the first place, but let criminals roam free. This is exactly Obamas point of view and I don't like it.

This is the only bill that he voted in favor of. Don't know why he did, but he has gotten an F rating from the NRA since at least 1998.

I think you have this backwards. McCain voted to protect gun companies from getting sued over some criminal using their gun to commit a crime. If you read the text of the bill (which I have) it explains that only defects in the gun that cause the user to get hurt apply in a lawsuit. So basically you're saying its OK to sue gun manufacturers who have nothing to do with the crimes people commit. Thats what this bill is about.

Dude. You're not even worth my time. This is the reason I tend to stay out of the political discussions, especially with right wing gun nuts. There is no discussion. It's all just finger pointing and hardcore dedication.

I'm done.
