Question ~Pawn Shopping~

Hi all.

I was wondering if any of go to pawn shops to look for DVDs, Games, tools etc...

Me and my wife love to go pawn shopping. We get some of the best deals on DVDs and games and even sporting goods (longboards & Bows) and sometimes you can even find cool things for the kids. Cheap!.
Today we got the Big Foot Power Wheels almost new for $75.00 cash, even came with an extra Batt. It's only 6 or so months old. Hell those sell for $300.00 new, so we think we got a good deal.

So do any of you go pawn shopping?

A nice deal! Yes, I think people underestimate the power of the Pawn Shop due to them thinking it's probably unclean and just junk. If you go once a month and spend less than $100, you can usually find some worth wild stuff.

I don't recommend buying any sentimental stuff there such as an engagement ring. Your girlfriend will be furious if she found out.

I think it all depends on your GF..

I bought my wife an antique 24k gold 1 1/2 ct diamond engagement ring and matching wedding band with another 4 1/2 ct diamonds (Not chips or CZ's or even Masonite) so 2 Ct's total. Ring valued at 6,000 dollars, at the time I got it all for 800.00 cash out the door.

She was there when I got it..We even got my ring from another shop.

Mine is an antique 24k gold with 3 diamonds and two real rubies. I had the ring appraised at over $2,000 and we got for $150.00. The ring was dirty and had been in his display case for years. The shop owner told us after we bought the ring that it had been in his shop for over 12 years and we were the first to ever look at it.

So I guess it was meant to be.. The money we saved on our rings we put to good use. Had a better honeymoon.

And you know what? We have never ran across any other rings that look like ours, and we have been asked by jewelers if we want to sell ours to them or trade them in for something else ring wise. We tell them politely no.
BTW we have been marred for almost 14 years now.

So would say it all depends on you and GF and how much money you want to spend.
if you can't afford the new stuff then the used is just as good..Clean it up and it's as good as new, only you and your wife will know.

I agree with you. I hope I didn't sound insensitive when I said that. It's just all the women I know are superficial and like stuff "new" and the "best". I apologize if I insulted you or anybody. Didn't mean it to come out that way.

But yes, I live in a big city so our Pawn Shop usual has new stock almost every week. Can't afford going down there every week though. A nice once a month visit is good.

I've never been but it's something I've wanted to try.

I'd love to try and scrounge up some old gaming systems and such.

I love Pawn Shopping, just like Surfer said and I LOVE my ring I wouldn't have cared were he got it! Though if we had had a truck we could have gotten a 56 inch projection TV for $300.00 and it worked! Oh well there's always next time.

BTW if you are giving your GF a BIG rock and you clean it up she won't ask were it came from...2cts for 800 OR 2cts to 6000+? Becides no one else needs to know.

Damn, now I really want to find one!

I've been looking for an HDTV and I bet I could find one if I looked.

I can honestly say I've never actually stepped foot in a pawn shop. Honestly I like buying things especially when it comes to electronic things because it will have a warranty.

I've found that those warranties tend to be rip offs though. I've had a couple of things break on me and when I bring 'em back, the store insists I did it or they give me some goofy reason why it doesn't fit the warranty.
