Magic isn't bad; its a slower paced game because you must build up resources and there's no attacking with a creature the turn its summoned. plus your creatures can defend an attack without you losing points.

Magic is also a much more abstract game. Cards rarely refer to one another (as is often in YGO), but refer to the many card types and such.
There is also very little emphasis on the really good cards. They're important in huge tournaments, but mostly deck cohesiveness and being able to play cards with the land you have, and deck balance come into play.
I've defeated a lot of people who have really killer cards because my buildup and momentum was smooth. Because of the use of land to play cards, you really need to have enough to do what you want. I play a rolling game, I have cheap defensive monsters, followed by zombies usually, as well as equip and effect cards. By the end of the game, I'm using my very strong monsters to get an advantage. But it's really a game of skill and harmony. Having the top cards doesn't really matter that much.

I used to play back when I was in high school and loved it. If I could find people to play with on regular basis I would start playing again. I was never any good at it but I enjoyed playing anyway. I don't like playing with cards after nemesis and perfer playing by 5th edition rules. but thats just me

That's the issue with Magic. The rules people like vary from edition to edition. If you like 5th ed. rules, then it's always really damn hard to find a decent game.
I'm just tired of people using nothing but those new artifacts from three or four years ago. Talk about a snooze-fest when nobody even plays a color deck anymore.

thats so true, and because of that I wish the game would just come to an end.
I wish I could find the old windows 95 mtg video game that played with beta rules it was alot of fun.

I just started getting into the game. I have a fairly craptastic red/green deck right now but I'm reading through some articles to teach me better deck building.
Anyone play the online game?

In the end we're all just chalk lines on the concrete, drawn only to be washed away . .
I'd rather you hate me for everything I am
Than have you love me for something that I'm not

I just started playing. I have a red/green deck, but I would like it to become a full-on sliver deck one day.
Does anyone know if a card (i.e. gemhide sliver, coal stoaker) adds mana to your pool, does it stay there forever, or just temporarily?
